Welcome to the Madison Bicycle Center!

The MBC is a bicycle-focused community center, a collaboration between local bike non-profit Madison Freewheel Bike Co and the City of Madison. We’re located in the heart of Madison’s downtown: at the new Judge Doyle Square project, at 202 S. Pinckney Street, on the Wisconsin State Capitol’s outer loop. No matter your skill level or bicycling experience, we offer all the services, amenities, and education you need to get moving and get connected.

Plus, all money from sales, services, memberships, and donations helps fund Freewheel. Your kind purchases and donations help us keep our space and our classes accessible for everyone.

Freewheel accepts donations of bicycles and their parts from our generous community. We then tune up these used bikes in anticipation for sale. All the bikes we sell at the shop come with a 30-day warranty, and one free tune-up ($50 value) within one year of purchase.

Because our selection of bikes is largely limited by the donations we receive, our selection is varied and constantly changing. (Think of us like a thrift store.) We’re always receiving donated bikes, tuning them up, and putting them on display, so check back frequently for additions!

Right now, our selection of bikes is rotating too quickly for us to keep any online postings current! To peruse our selection, come to the Madison Bike Center at 202 S Pinckney.

Repair Services

Freewheel’s friendly and knowledgeable mechanics provide repair services at reasonable costs. A basic tune-up covers essential maintenance and costs $50.

Additional work may cost more, especially if we need to replace parts on a bike. We always check with you to confirm any changes to an estimate before starting work. Bring your bike to the Madison Bike Center for a free safety check and quote!

Parts and Accessories

We have a selection of new parts (like chains, cassettes, pedals, and inner tubes) and new accessories (think grip tape, lights, and locks) available for sale. We also have a collection of used parts and tires available by donation — come by and explore!

Instruction and Classes

Interested in learning how to work on your own bike? Freewheel provides bicycle education to all, by donation. To learn more about current classes and one-on-one instruction, visit Freewheel’s website.

About Memberships

We’re eager to roll out memberships at the Madison Bicycle Center! Members will receive a number of amenities designed to encourage commuter cycling downtown. These include secure bike and item storage, showers, changing rooms, same-day turnaround on most repairs, and use of our bike wash station. We will sell both monthly memberships and day passes.

Unfortunately, we’re not ready to open our facility to members just yet. Interested in receiving updates when we’re ready to roll out memberships? Drop us an email to join Freewheel’s email list and receive updates on when we’re ready to go.
